A Message from MART President, Pat Talbot
Greetings to all our colleagues in student services across our emerald green province!
Your MART Executive is busily preparing for our 2010 AGM and look forward to a wonderful day.
We are presenting “Difficult People” and how to have positive conversations with them and how to manage our reactions to them. I highly recommend this to you. I think wherever you are in your career and your intrapersonal skills this will be a “tune up” or a “life saver”. Knotted stomachs and having sleepless nights are, believe it or not, NOT NECESSARY.
Please join us May 14 – we have limited space available - don’t leave it too late. Take care of yourself first and the rest will follow. Bring some fellow teachers you know who might have had some less than memorable encounters in their work life.
In addition I’d like to personally invite you to join our executive. It’s been a memorable 10 years for me in a variety of positions-I have met wonderful people who give up 6- 8 Saturday mornings to help out their colleagues. You would be so welcome and you will learn so much from people in a wide variety of student services. Please contact any of us on executive to discuss how you can be part of MART executive. Our new year starts in May 2010. Two huge pluses of being on executive is getting to meet our 200 members at functions and through email responses to the website or journal but also attending our professional development at no cost. Think about it-you are wanted and needed!
One last wish from me-please help us make our MART website, mbmart.ca work for you-we want it not to just be an information source but also a work resource-if you have great websites you use constantly or a resource or book that you wouldn’t be without could you please let Jennifer Doyle know so she can post it for everyone. We want this to be a dynamic website for resource but as with everything we need help from experts like yourself. Please share and offer suggestions. Working together makes us all stronger-especially when you work alone in a school without a partner-we can all partner through the website. Any ideas or suggestions please let Jennifer know.
